Hand-woven scarf made of Matka silk in ivory white with small gold-coloured blocks. The scarf is embellished with kantha hand embroidery. Size: 60cm x 200cm.
Matka silk
This animal-friendly silk is the sturdy sister of the very soft, smooth silk. Matka silk is less slippery and less shiny, but has fantastic thermal properties: the fabric feels wonderfully warm when temperatures are low and cools your skin when it gets warmer.

In the silk industry, cocoons containing the silkworms are boiled to keep the cocoon whole. Cocoons in which the caterpillar has turned into a butterfly cannot be used by industry. They are 'broken'. Hand spinners and weavers turn this industrial waste product into a beautiful fabric: Matka silk.
